The adoption of workshop quality standards by the motor rewind industry is considered important to achieving consistently higher quality motor rewinds, and thereby protecting and maintaining the electrical efficiency of the New Zealand motor stock.
The Commission initiated the establishment of the Motor Rewind Workshop Quality Scheme (Scheme) for that purpose. The Scheme covered people skills, equipment and process requirements and management systems, and was developed in tune with the needs of New Zealand businesses.
Telarc SAI Limited (Telarc) was appointed to work with the Commission and the motor rewind industry to develop and establish the planned Scheme.
The purpose of the Motor Rewind Consultation Group (MRCG) was to ensure that motor rewind industry participants were fully engaged in the development and establishment of the Scheme that will be valued by the motor rewind industry and motor users.
The MRCG was to assist the Telarc project manager by providing commercial and technical advice concerning the design, establishment and operation of the planned Scheme.
Rewind industry members of the MRCG were:
- Simon Mantle (Electric Motor Solutions Ltd)
- Ken Grey (New Plymouth Rewinds Ltd)
- Bruce Gore (South Pacific Rewinders Ltd)
- David Priestley (CMG Service)
Amanda Hunt was the Commission's representative on the group.
