Initial consultation closes on proposed North Island grid upgrade

The Electricity Commission has completed its first consultation step to consider Transpower’s proposal to upgrade transmission services between Whakamaru and South Auckland. The Commission has received more than 140 submissions from members of the public, industry, landowners, iwi and other interested parties.

Consultation starts on Transpower’s revised transmission upgrade proposal

The Electricity Commission has received a revised North Island grid upgrade proposal from Transpower to construct a 400kV-capable overhead transmission line between Whakamaru and South Auckland. It is proposed that the line would be operated initially at 220kV then converted to operate at 400kV at a future date. The proposed line includes connection into Pakuranga via 220kV underground cables.

Commission defers oral submissions for proposed 400kV upgrade

The Electricity Commission said today it is reconsidering its consultation schedule for its draft decision on Transpower’s proposal to build a 400 kilovolt (kV) line between Whakamaru and Auckland. The consultation process was to have included oral submissions in Manukau and Hamilton on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 June. The oral hearings have now been deferred.
