Public meetings - Proposed Upper North Island transmission grid upgrade

The Electricity Commission is holding a series of public meetings to explain its reasoning for its notified intention to approve Transpower’s proposed transmission grid upgrade between Whakamaru, just north of Tokoroa, and Pakuranga, in South Auckland.

The Commission’s detailed explanation and reasoning for its decision will be set out in its paper "Reasons for Decision set out in Notice of Intention regarding Transpower’s North Island Grid Upgrade Proposal" and other supporting material that will be available on the Commission’s website on or about Friday, 23 February 2007.

At these public meetings, the Commission will give background to its decision and explain the process it will go through during the next three months before it makes a final decision at the end of May or early June.

This process involves inviting interested parties to make written submissions as part of a public conference process and then holding a public conference in late April or early May. The deadline for written submissions is Friday, 30 March 2007 at 5pm.

The Commission will consider impartially all information it receives before making a final decision on Transpower’s proposal.
