The Minister of Energy and Resources approved the 2010 System Operator policy statement recommended by the Commission on 14 June 2010.  The new policy statement came into effect on 1 September 2010.

Residual issues

A few issues raised in the policy statement review process require more consideration and further consultation before they may be resolved.  The Commission keeps a list of outstanding policy statement issues and discusses these with the system operator following the completion of the annual review cycle to establish which ones might be dealt with in the following year’s review or better addressed in a wider perspective due to substantial policy changes required .  All outstanding issues are to be found at:

Departures from the policy statement

Rule 13.1 of Section II of Part C states that:  "The system operator shall depart from the policies set out in a policy statement in the event that a system security situation arises and such departure is required in terms of the system operator acting as a reasonable and prudent system operator."

Rule 13.2 of Section II of Part C states that:  "When the system operator makes any departure under rule 13.1 because of a system security situation, the system operator will provide a report to the Board setting out the circumstances of the system security situation and the actions taken to deal with it. The Board will ensure this report is published within a reasonable time of its receipt."
