To accommodate the connection of further wind generation in the lower North Island while maintaining the integrity of the New Zealand power system, the Electricity Commission carried out a project to analyse Manawatu wind generation data to identify any immediate rule changes required to Part G or Part C of the Electricity Governance Rules. This project was completed in 2006.
The following papers related to the Tactical Project are available:
The Manawatu wind generation report reviews the observed impacts of the operation of the Te Apiti and Tararua wind farms on the power system and electricity market over a period of six months from November 2004.
The System Operator’s Rationale paper explains its rationale for proposed rule changes to accommodate the connection of further wind generation until the Wind Generation Investigation Project (WGIP) is complete.
The Electricity Commission’s proposal to amend the requirements related to intermittent generation was published for consultation in August 2006. A number of submissions were received in response to the paper.
