Centralised Dataset - Web Interface

Introduction

This page presents summarised electricity market data for the benefit of industry participants and members of the public. These data can be accessed through a query tool – but please read the disclaimer below before proceeding.

All the data available through the query tool are derived from the Centralised Dataset (CDS). Experienced users will likely prefer the full CDS, but casual users may prefer this web interface.

No software is required to use the site, though access to a spreadsheet may be helpful when working with large result sets. Results are generated as tables, and can also be downloaded in CSV format. No graphic output is currently available.

If you have any questions, contact info@electricitycommission.govt.nz with 'CDS Web Interface' in the subject line of your message. Corrections and/or suggestions for improvement are also welcome.

What information is available here?

The data available currently include:

  • Historical electricity consumption (total energy, peak)
    • nationally, regionally, or at GXP level
  • Historical electricity generation
    • by generation type, by hydro system, or for individual plant
  • HVDC transfers
  • Wholesale nodal prices by GXP
  • Instantaneous reserve prices.

All these data are available for annual, monthly or daily time periods.

More Commission data may be added if there is interest (for instance, demand forecasts or generation scenarios). If you want to request enhancements, contact info@electricitycommission.govt.nz with 'CDS Web Interface' in the subject line of your message.

How up to date is the information?

It is not expected that the data on this site will be kept up-to-date from month to month. As a rule, it will always be at least 1 month out of date, and sometimes six months or more (like the full CDS, which is only published twice a year).

Currently, the data cover the period to end of May or June 2010 (the exact period varies depending on the type of data).

If you need up-to-date data, you should contact a commercial provider.

What information is not available here (and how can it be obtained)?

Drill down to half-hourly level

You will need to obtain the full CDS if you want this level of detail. All data in the Web Interface are aggregated to a daily level.

More timely data

You will need to contact a commercial provider if you want more up-to-date information.

Wholesale market bids and offers, generation by unit (e.g. Huntly 6), reactive power metering, binding constraints, hydrology, network configuration information

All these data are available in the full CDS but not included here.

Retail market data

Not available in the CDS. Some retail data are available through the Retail market statistics of the Commission's website.

Reserve offers and cleared quantities

Not currently available in the CDS, though reserve prices are included in the full CDS and this web interface

Information about other ancillary services

Not available in the CDS. Some ancillary service data are available on the Frequency keeping data page in the Common Quality section of the Commission's website

AC transmission flows

Not available in the CDS, though HVDC flows are included in the full CDS and this website.

If you want to request other information from the Commission, contact info@electricitycommission.govt.nz.
