Background
On 9 May 2007, Transpower applied to the Electricity Commission (Commission) for approval of interim grid expenditure (IGE) for up to $8.27 million ($7.5 million is the upper limit of the total payments to demand-side participants).
The IGE application pdf [174 KB] is for expenditure on a trial by Transpower to test demand-side participation in the upper South Island and to develop a grid support contract.
Consultation
The Commission has previously signalled its intention to engage with stakeholders as much as possible within the confines of the transitional provisions contained within rule 16, the Commission sought submissions on the application, pursuant to rule 16.4.2 of section III of part F.
Submissions closed on 1 June 2007 and the Commission received 9 submissions.

Decision
Having considered the views of submitters, the Commission finalised its decision on the IGE application at its 25/26 June 2007 Board meeting and authorised the publication of a final decision paper. The final decision paper summarises the submissions and explains the Commission's decision to approve the expenditure on the demand-side participation trial and development of a grid support contract product.
