The Dispatchable Demand project is one of the priority projects of the Market Development Programme (MDP). The ability of demand-side participants to respond actively to wholesale electricity market conditions is an important component of an efficient wholesale market. While there are existing mechanisms in place to encourage this response, several policy problems have been identified with these arrangements. A dispatchable demand regime offers on way of addressing these policy problems.
